Cardboard Boxes For Cats

A cat playground can be rustic, plain and more importantly, something you can DIY! Just like this grid of boxes.

A Japanese cat lover took things to a whole new level, with his nine cats and cardboard boxes. It's a brilliant idea indeed!

Watch this:

When you think about it, you don’t actually have to break the bank to create a feline playroom. Many toys are made from recycled items, some of which can be easily made, or are even free by upcycling items from your home, such as cardboard boxes. Talk about cost effective solutions. Plus, cats often like to claw on cardboard boxes, so the boxes also deter them from clawing furniture. Ultimately, it's a cheap way to build them a 'fortress' where they feel safe to nap in, hide in and or just play their hearts out.

Have you ever wondered, why cats are crazy about cardboard boxes?

As it turns out, cats use boxes for stress relief. Researchers at the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands took 19 cats that were new to shelters and gave 10 boxes, while the other nine cats did not. Over a 14-day period, the felines with boxes showed far less stress on the Kessker and Turner Cat-Stress-Score (CSS), and adjusted to the shelter environment far better than their box-less cohorts.

As much fun as this research sounds, it has a serious purpose. “Domestic cats (Felis sylvestris catus) can experience serious stress in shelters,” the authors write. On top of making your cats unhappy, stress also affect their immune systems, increasing outbreaks of infectious diseases.

Another reason would be that boxes keep cats warm. The animal psychology behind keeping warm in a box is similar to why cats sleep on cushions or why they like to lie in the sun rather than the shade. #Catology101

Haze This Happened To You Before

Ingatlah Orang Yang Tersayang

Based on a true story. No animals were harmed in the making of this cartoon.

On a relevant note, this is the first time in dinosaur years that
I've not taken my furkids out for daily walks. I've been doing it every day without fail.
Needless to say, the haze has seriously affected our lives and the furkids' as well.

And yes, you've noticed. The cartoons are back due to popular demand. Happy now?

The Country Is Going To The Dogs?

When Tun Dr Mahathir said this at his press conference yesterday...

Jokes aside, if something is going to the dogs...it means it's going to ruin. But tell you what, looking at the current economic crisis, racial tension and political uncertainties, maybe the dogs can run the country better?

Dogs In Public Places

This was reportedly captured in Tesco Plentong, Johor Bharu. A netizen on Facebook called Sharafazleen Sta, uploaded this image with the caption:

"Bawak anjing jalan2 ke ape??? Letak dalam troli. Siap terkencing lagi!!"

Ok now, let's be practical. First of all don't go hating on all dogs or this one particular dog. It's never the dog's fault, it's the owner! As a person who loves dogs and all animals in general, even I feel this is something really foolish to do. Before we talk about this being insensitive to Muslims, we need to understand that regardless of religion, not everyone loves dogs. There are a lot of people who are afraid of dogs. People with cynophobia, dogphobics, children, you name them. Not everyone can accept the presence of dogs in public places like a hypermarket in this case. This is why even in western countries pets are not allowed in many places.

In fact, some people will have hygiene concerns to have a dog sitting inside a trolley. Simply because this is the same trolley customers will put their chicken, various other meat products, vegetables, baby products and more. Inconsiderate much?

And if what the witness claimed is true, the dog also urinated. YES!

This is really really not cool. You can be a one hell of a dog lover, but you must know there are boundaries to everything in a shared space.

I also would like to question where were the Tesco staff when all this happened?

Meanwhile here's an update from a netizen, Nizam Rahman:

"Berikutan kejadian anjing dalam troli, AJK masjid Plentong gotong royong sertu lebih kurang 500 biji troli."

Soon after these photos went viral, a lot people strongly believed the photo was fake/doctored and abused the person who posted it for causing tension. However Tesco Malaysia has now CONFIRMED that the incident took place and issued an apology on Facebook.

Looking at the photo initially, it did raise doubts on its authenticity. The dog was unnaturally angled and etc. Unless it was trying to jump out of the trolley. I wanted it to be fake, I really did. I refrained from posting anything last night, until Tesco themselves confirmed the incident. In the end, they did. While there are many theories trying to debunk and prove that the photo was doctored and fake, the fact remains that a large reputable international corporation such as Tesco has admitted that this incident DID HAPPEN at said time and place. As someone who has worked in Tesco previously, I can tell that any complaint of this magnitude will be carefully handled by the headquarters. All protocols and thorough investigations will be conducted before any apology or denial is issued. Tesco will first do everything in its power to protect itself and its business from such a sensitive accusation. Staff and tenants will be questioned. CCTV footage will be reviewed. Only then an admission or denial will be issued. This is a standard protocol. No decision will or logically could be made based on a single photo evidence in an age where photos can be doctored to sabotage their business. The HQ will not possibly allow that. If the incident did not take place, why would Tesco take the trouble or lie to jeopardize its reputation and admit the mistake? People keep badgering them for CCTV footage. But why? They've already admitted it's their fault and it happened. Admit mistake also wrong? And here we're are not talking about the careless Tesco Extra branch in Plentong. The issue has been escalated to the big bosses (some Orang Putih) and the statement came direct from the HQ in KL after investigations were concluded. So as it stands, the incident took place.

More admissions by Tesco:

I also regret the fact that a lot of dimwits tried spinning this into a racial issue.

Again, this has got nothing to do with race. The incident was about an inconsiderate and irresponsible individual. There are people like this among all of us. Malays, Chinese, Indians, foreigners, and everyone. So stop flaming unnecessary racial tension because of an individual error. And these comments above are just the mild ones. There are many more nasty racial comments that I feel disgusted to even post here. I guess these racist fools just wait for a moment like this to arrive and spread their bullshit?

Fur Note: A lot of you have been asking what happened to me. Sorry that I've not been blogging for awhile. I changed my job recently and I've been struggling to adjust to my new schedule. But be rest assured I'll be back to posting more frequently. Pawmish!

Trending Haircut For Dogs

There's a new trend going around the puppy parlours of Taiwan. Dog owners and pet groomers have taken to giving their dogs very shapely haircuts so that they look different from the rest. These doggy haircuts are so impeccably done, they're literally in shape like a box.

Hairdresser, Tain Yeh, who runs a parlour in Taipei said: "I am aware of the trend although we don't have much request for it here because it's very difficult to keep the shape. It came about because people were always looking for more impressive haircuts, and somebody came up with the idea of shaping the dog like a hedge or box."

Pictures of doe-eyed dogs with their shapely new cuts have proved extremely popular online, prompting more owners to seek out the custom salons.

Many are now opting for the cuts simply to get more likes and shares on social media sites.

Yeh added: "The dogs don't mind, and the owners keep coming back for more. This sort of haircut needs a lot more maintenance then the regular type. It is also not suitable for all breeds. The dog needs to have plenty of hair to play around with so that you can shape it around the face and body."

On that note, Happy Father's Day to all you poor fathers who can't afford fancy haircuts for your children!

What If Black Cats Are...

Some people just hate black cats and will even go to the extent of abusing them. When I was young, I was told that if I was going out and a black cat crossed my path, I must spit three times, and take another route. Or better still, cancel my plans. Because apparently, a black cat signifies bad luck and all things evil. Whatever you're about to do on that day will go wrong it seems. In a society deeply wired with superstitions, I'm sure you've heard this one, or even at some point, believed it.

But let me tell you. If a black cat is crossing your path when you're going for your dream job's interview, it means that the cat is................going somewhere. As simple as that!

And also.... Now with the recent 'Dressgate' that appears like an optical fraud, you begin to wonder, what if black cats were gold all this while?? LOL.

Oh wait, let me digress a bit..You know that dress colour is still mind boggling despite some scientific explanations given by experts. Seriously, who understands all that? What you see is what you believe...Right?

Anyway, to end this post on an unrelated note that's somehow kinda related, here's a Golden Horse..

I swear this is real. The breed is called Akhal-Teke. These horses are adapted to severe climatic conditions, and are thought to be one of the oldest existing horse breeds. See, you learn something today. My blog is not all that nonsense after all. Kthanxbai!

What Are The Colours Of This Dress?

I'm one of the mindf*cked victims caught in the debate about the colour of this dress. In the morning it looked like white and gold to me. And then in the afternoon I looked on my phone and it appeared to be black and blue. In the evening it was white and gold again. Not sure what sorcery is this. While I was at it, I asked my dogs....

Ok, there you have the answer. In case you think they're kidding....

Note: Just so you know, dogs CAN see in colour. Scientists have long dispelled the myth that canines can only see in black and white. Hah...

One Last Walk of Honour

A 9-year-old German Shepherd named Judge received the ultimate tribute before being euthanized last Friday. Biting down on his favorite toy, Judge took his last walk with his owner and former partner, Cpl. Mike Franks, down a police salute line in Woolwich, NJ. Before being diagnosed with Cushings Disease and retiring as a police dog, Judge aided in the arrest of 152 people, the removal of handguns from the street, drug seizes, and helped police confiscate $47,000 in cash.

There's plenty of backlash from the public when it comes to euthanasia or PTS. Some see it as a way to end the suffering of their beloved pets, while others see it as a cruel way of taking a life. Make your own judgement out of this:

With more than 20 West Deptford police officers looking on, joined by at least 70 others representing departments from across South Jersey, Cpl. Michael Franks on Friday took his last walk with his partner and beloved pet, retired K-9 Judge, into St. Francis Veterinary Center.

After watching his former partner battle Cushings Disease for months, experiencing symptoms like vomiting, bleeding and hair loss -- and witnessing the former K-9 officer struggle to even move over the past few days -- Franks and his family made the heartbreaking decision to put Judge down.

"Judge had gone under surgery, and was taking medication for the disease, but it quickly deteriorated, unfortunately," said West Deptford Deputy Chief Sean McKenna, standing in the reception area of the Woolwich animal hospital, surrounded by fellow officers, all waiting somberly as Franks and Judge spent their last moments together in one of the patient rooms.

"The doctors gave him several months to live," he added. "He hasn't been up in a few days. However, today, Franks gave Judge his last bite."

That "last bite" saw Franks donning the K-9 department's protective arm sleeve, and, just as in training, allowing Judge to latch his jaws onto it one final time.

Judge was still holding the sleeve in his mouth as he and Franks walked into the hospital.

"It's about showing respect, but also the people who are here wanted to thank Judge for his service to the community," said Glassboro Sgt. Dan Eliasen, who supervises his department's K-9 division. "No one has forgotten what he's done -- and that includes protecting his partner and his community."

The West Deptford community in November came to the aid of Judge and Franks, donating more than $12,000 in less than two days toward the 9-year-old German Shepherd's veterinary bills. At that time, they had racked up more than $10,000 in veterinary bills -- nearly all of which the family had to pay for out of pocket -- after doctors diagnosed Judge with Cushings Disease.

I also saw this moving poem posted online as a tribute to this exceptional hero. RIP Judge..

The Last Battle

If it should be that I grow frail and weak
And pain should keep me from my sleep,
Then will you do what must be done,
For this, the last battle, can't be won.
You will be sad I understand,
But don't let grief then stay your hand,
For on this day, more than the rest,
Your love and friendship must stand the test.
We have had so many happy years,
You wouldn't want me to suffer so.
When the time comes, please, let me go.
Take me to where to my needs they'll tend,
Only, stay with me till the end
And hold me firm and speak to me
Until my eyes no longer see.
I know in time you will agree
It is a kindness you do to me.
Although my tail its last has waved,
From pain and suffering I have been saved.
Don't grieve that it must be you
Who has to decide this thing to do;
We've been so close, we two, these years,
Don't let your heart hold any tears.

Miracle: Cat Survives After He’s Stabbed In Head With Knife

It was an unlucky Friday the 13th for a stray cat in the Crimean Peninsula, who was stabbed in the head with a massive kitchen knife.

The resilient kitty was found in the city of Sevastopol and rushed to a nearby animal hospital, where it made a full recovery after the blade was surgically removed, according to Europics.

“When I went to look for him I found him hiding under a bush and was shocked to see a knife sticking out of his head even though he was still alive,” Lyudmila Alexeeva told local TV.

Officials are not sure whether the kitty was the target of a random attack or whether it had known its assailant, Europics reports.

“The knife was wedged in the skull and the cat had probably run off before its attacker could remove the blade,” said Natalia Morozova, president of the Sevastopol charity fund for homeless animals.

“We think the cat had been stabbed on Friday the 13th, and had therefore been injured for some time before he was found.”

The cat, dubbed Zelonyy or “Mr. Green” in English, will remain in the care of veterinarians to ensure an infection does not set in. Local police have been informed about the incident.

To the person who did this hideous act, hell awaits you sick dimwit! Can't imagine the pain Zelonyy went through days before he was finally rescued. I must say, he's really fortunate to have survived such a serious injury. I'm so glad that he did. This cat surely has 9 lives. Surely!
