Floods And Furkids

There was a time earlier this year when water cuts and water rationing were brought upon us by the continuous hot and dry weather. Rivers were drying and we prayed to the sky to rain long and heavy, and end our plight.

Fast forward a few months to the present, as I’m writing this, rivers are bursting their banks and various areas in several states in the country are submerged in water. People are grappling to salvage whatever belongings they can afford to take along with them. Upon arriving at their relief centres and doing a head count on their family members, anguish cracks on the faces of some. It’s not just about cars, televisions, computers and furniture. Pets…They remember that their pets were left behind, helpless and trapped.

Some are still in cages, while some are tied to something. The furkids were left completely disabled from climbing to safety. But it’s too late by then when they realised. The floods just gushed in and many of them couldn’t buy any time to react. Some pet owners have their furkids firmly secured, but not all pet lovers had similar circumstances.

My thoughts go out to those affected by the floods. I also can’t help thinking what would’ve happened to the strays and all the animals who are unable to fend for themselves in times like this. News flashes and crawlers are accurately accounting those relocated and those who perished. But I believe the actual loss of all lives will be a grimacing statistic.

I’m one of the many fortunate Malaysians, residing in the Klang Valley, at a place where flood is a rarity. But I tried putting myself in the shoes of those affected as a devoted pet lover. What if my district is inundated by floods and I’m sitting on the roof of my house with my family and furkids, waiting for help. The water is rising quickly and we are holding on to our dear lives. A rescue boat carrying a couple of people is finally coming to our aid. But what if the joy is short-lived? What if the rescue personnel say only humans are allowed on their boat? What if I have to leave behind my furkids, whom I raised like my own children? What if I’m not given a choice? What do I do? I wouldn’t even wish my enemy to be in that moment of forlornness and despair.

On that account, it’s really moving to see photos on social media showing rescue personnel and the public doing their bit, not only to save the human species, but all lives, affected by this devastating natural disaster. I bow to them!

More photos doing rounds on the Internet:

Based on reports...This Pakcik is 70 years old. His name is Mohamad Ayub Ahmad, from Kampong Selat Pulau, near Pasir Salak. He didn't leave his furbaby behind when escaping the floods. Respect!

Wish everyone has a boat like this and everyone would spare some space for the four-legged souls.

Army comfort for the flood-affected.. #HelpingArm #Helping Army

Meet The Green Cat Of Bulgaria

With rapid development and the breakneck rise in concrete jungles, it's hard to come by much greenery these days. And it's definitely worth stopping, rubbing your eyes and even slapping yourself a few times in case you come across a green cat on the street. Yup, that's what's been happening in Bulgaria in recent days.

This unusually coloured feline has been spotted on the streets of the Black Sea resort of Varna, Bulgaria. The locals at first thought, some vandals had painted the cat green, and a Facebook page was set up to trace the person behind the abuse.

But the explanation appears to be a lot more innocent. The cat apparently loves to sleep in a pile of powdered green paint at a local garage. What happened next? The cat has now turned into a 'mutant-super-green-cat' with the mysterious super power of attracting media and people all over the world to its humble home. The power of the green cat enables the moggy to go viral all over the internet, newspapers, radio, TV, you name it. People are now dropping by every hour and feeding the cat some high-end fine-dining food, simply to lure it out of its hiding. Seems legitly powerful there!

Efforts to capture the cat and clean it or inspect its health have been unsuccessful. But so far, the cat is not showing any signs of health issues and I hope it stays well.

Certainly this kitty is courting many admirers and the attention of the whole world..Looks like its fortunes are changing. Tuah ayam nampak di kaki, tuah kucing?

Puppy Likened To Dobby From Harry Potter

Owner of this puppy Eduardo Landin, who lives in the Brete neighbourhood from the city of Banda in Argentina, was shocked when he noticed that one of his new puppies appeared like a human.

He said: "It was kind of similar but also shockingly different to the other puppies, so I realised it was in some way deformed and at first I thought it was dead. But then I saw it moving and trying to feed, so I helped it over to the mother and it managed to drink something but its nose kept getting in the way."

The puppy also quickly received comparisons to Dobby, the house elf from the Harry Potter films.

Eduardo added: "I was amazed at how quickly word spread and loads of people are coming to look at the tiny puppy, and take pictures and videos. One of the children that came around said, it looked like a character from one of the Harry Potter movies, and that's what everyone is calling it in the local media here."

Eduardo had taken the puppy to the local Animal Health Centre, where the reason for the deformity, puzzled vets. They suspect the puppy would not live much longer, but told him to come back in 15 days, if it is still alive.

Two local women, Andrea Rico and Marcela Davila, who are friends of the family, are currently looking after the puppy, and are doing everything to keep him alive.

Andrea said: "The mother has not rejected the puppy, but he does have difficulty sucking, as his trunk gets in the way and it's like he's drowning."

Local media believe the deformation is due to the use of pesticides on farmland in the region, although they admitted they had never seen anything similar before.

Eduardo said: "We have had a few calls from people telling us it's evil, and we need to kill it and burn the body. But that's just superstition talking, it is a mutation but it isn't evil."

Here's a video of the puppy:

From my personal point of view, it's just shocking to see how much this puppy looks like a human. I've had experiences seeing human babies born resembling animals. Some people say it's due to curse. As much as I want to shrug it off, it makes sense as those who had these babies are either hunters, or those who do business with animals, by taking their lives and destroying their habitats. The coincidence is baffling, but makes a good case for argument. Nevertheless, this is an opposite condition to the aforementioned case. As a biology student at school, I'd scientifically point out that this appears to be Alobar Holoprosencephaly. This disorder affects the formation of the facial features. The facial deformity is caused by failure of the forebrain to grow, and split into bilateral cerebral hemispheres or into two hemispheres.

Cy the Cyclops Kitten

The most severe of the facial defects is cyclopia, which is an abnormality characterized by the development of a single eye. In 2012, Cy the Cyclops Kitten developed a similar condition, and people started making noise that it's an evil cat. I bet if their own child is born with such a condition, they would say it's a god's gift and a lucky child? I'm glad that Eduardo refused to be brainwashed by calls to burn the puppy because it's supposedly evil. Although the chances are slim, I truly hope the puppy will make it and live a happy life. It will be strange to see a dog looking like one of us. But then again, why not?

Post Diwali Drama

When Diwali is over, it's time for the kids at home to have a go at all the leftover cookies, crackers and what not. So yeah..

Yes...My dogs. They exaggerate those little things I do for them and put me on a pedestal of greatness. It's just unstoppable. They'll always find a silly reason to love me more! LOL
